Senior Backend Engineer

Build the verification backbone — the integrations and pipelines that turn a stack of checks into one trustworthy result.

Verification is the heart of Cleo. You will own the backend systems that integrate screening providers and stitch their results into a single, auditable Work Passport.

What you’ll do

• Design resilient integrations with background, drug, identity and I-9 / E-Verify providers
• Build the data model and APIs behind the Work Passport credential
• Own reliability, observability and compliance-grade audit trails
• Keep sensitive data secure and handled to spec

What we’re looking for

• 5+ years of backend engineering with production ownership
• Strong with APIs, queues, and third-party integrations at scale
• Experience handling sensitive or regulated data is a plus
• Thoughtful about correctness, security and edge cases
